A MOTHER AND HER SON....

As I think of the Crucifixion and Resurrection or our Lord Jesus; I find myself pondering his mother. John 19: 25-27 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” 27 Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.

I can picture her standing there at the cross. Watching her baby in pain. It must have been torture for her. Knowing he would die for sins he had not committed must have been so hard. For me the pain of this mother as she watches her child is heart wrenching. To truly understand Jesus's sacrifice you must see him not only as one without sin, but also as a son whose mother watched. As a man whose friends deserted him.

Have you ever been betrayed by a friend? They say something to you that is upsetting or insulting. It catches you completely off guard and makes you feel truly betrayed. It is truly like a knife in the back. Our friends inflict the deepest wounds. These wounds are so much harder to forgive. Yet Jesus knew this was coming he even predicted it. Luke 22: 21 But behold, the hand of My betrayer is with Me on the table. He knew what was coming, he knew who would betray him, and yet he did not become angry. He did not fight it because he knew it was the only way. He surrendered himself to the punishment for our sins. Luke 23: 34Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”And they divided His garments and cast lots. He forgave them before it was done. In excruciating pain, having been betrayed, watching the sorrow of his friends and mother, on a cross for the crimes he did not commit he forgave them all. He forgives all!

He was pierced for our transgressions
He was crushed for our sins
The punishment that brought us peace was upon Him
And by His wounds, by His wounds we are healed

We are healed by Your sacrifice
And the life that You gave
We are healed for You paid the price
By Your grace we are saved
We are saved

What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
